Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club

    * Location: In the heart of Kota Kinabalu City
    * Quick facts: 27- hole, par 72, 9351m long buggy course, featuring night golf.

Designed by Graham Marsh and set in the midst of the luxurious Sutera Harbour Resort complex with the backdrop of the South China Sea and islands of the Marine Park. Graced by wide fairways, the acclaimed course designer Marsh has used the effect of lakes and water to dramatise the layout. Its signature hole is the 24th par 4, 330m, with the challenge provided by the sandy waste and the sea which comes precariously close to the undulating green.
It is worth noting that this first-class course offers an exiting new experience: night golfing. Other facilities include a driving range, putting green, chipping and bunker practice area, Resident Pro, Pro-shop, buggy rental, locker rooms with sauna facilities and a golf club house. In-house guests at the Sutera are allowed cross-signing privileges.

 

Borneo Golf & Country Club

    * Location: Bongawan, about 1 hour drive from Kota Kinabalu City
    * Quick facts: Designed by Jack Nicklaus, 18-hole, 6546m, par 72 golf course, on a 900 acre site sitting on the edge of the South China Sea.

This is a superbly-crafted buggy course which uses a natural lagoon and lakes to dramatise the effect of water on most holes. With a spectacular seaside setting and ever-present breeze, the par-72 layout boasts wide Bermuda fairways and fast greens offering a great challenge to professional and amateur golfers alike.

The Borneo Golf & Country Club is further complemented by the Prescott Resort Hotel situated just besides the clubhouse.

 

Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club

    * Location: Tuaran, about 40 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu City
    * Quick facts: Designed by Ted Parslow, 18 holes, par 72, 6310m long course.

Part of the Shangri-La's Rasa Ria resort, this 6,310m, 18-hole championship course provides the golfers with a challenging experience bordered by the Tambalang and Mengkabong rivers with a stunning view of Mt Kinabalu. The Pantai Dalit Bay is a prime wetland course where water comes into play at every hole.

 

Kudat Golf Club

    * Location: Kudat, about 2½ hours drive from Kota Kinabalu City.
    * Quick facts: 18 holes, par 72, 6080m long course.

In existence since the early 1900s and acknowledged as the first golf club in Sabah. Originally a 9-hole course, the course was extended in 2002 by 3005 meters, giving Kudat Golf Club an 18-hole golf course of 6080 meters. The first nine holes of this non-buggy course starts on the seaside facing Marudu Bay, and features large water hazards and numerous bunkers, while the second nine is located in the heart of Kudat town, and is naturally wooded and matured, but challenging in its own way, being surrounded by buildings, roads and houses. Kudat golf club is complemented by a driving range, a marina and resort, which offers good accommodation and F&B outlets, and a place to berth your yacht!

 

Mount Kinabalu Golf Club

    * Location: Kundasang, about 2 hours drive from Kota Kinabalu City, or 20 minutes from Mnt Kinabalu National Park.
    * Quick facts: Designed by Robert Muir Graves, 18 holes, par 72, 6319m long course, at 1500m above sea level.

Situated on the Pinosuk Plateau at 1500 meters above sea level the Mt. Kinabalu Golf Club promises a unique experience of cool highlands golfing with beautiful landscapes and challenging conditions. This 18-hole course is both physically and mentally challenging with ever-present winds, steep slopes and surrounding mists. One of its notable holes is the 14th, par 3, 142 meters, which features a gushing river at the bottom of a deep ravine. It is a true test of skill once you get here: you will need an accurate shot from the elevated tee across the Mesilau East River to land on the green perched on the edge of a cliff.

Facilities include a clubhouse, golfers' lounge, practice putting and chipping green, golf shop, rental of buggy, golf shoes and golf sets, and caddy service.

Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai

    * Location: Karambunai beach, about 30 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu City
    * Quick facts: 18 holes, par 72, 5997m long course, set between lush jungle covered hills and sandy beaches.

Designed by renowned American golf architect Ronald Fream, the site and the golf at Nexus are world class. This beautifully crafted championship course requires both strength and strategy from the golfer with its dogleg holes, meandering waterways, bunkers and ocean breeze. The Club is equipped with buggy facilities, golf equipment rental, open-air driving range, practice chipping and putting greens, spacious changing and locker rooms, Pro shop and F&B services.

 

Sabah Golf & Country Club

    * Location: 10 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu City
    * Quick Facts: 18 holes, par 72, 6335m long course, one of Southeast Asia's toughest courses.

This championship course was designed by Robert Muir Graves and acknowledged as one of South East Asia's toughest courses. It is characterised by undulating fairways, fast greens and large water hazards. The longest and probably the most difficult hole is Hole 14 - par 5, 625 yards - but according to the resident golfers, brain presides over brawn here. Holes 14th, 15th and 16th have been nick-named named "Amen Corner".
The club facilities include golfers' lounge, tennis/squash courts, practice green, golf set rental, changing rooms, restaurants, gym, games rooms, pool and driving range.

 

Shan-Shui Golf & Country Club

    * Location: Tawau, 45 minutes plane ride from Kota Kinabalu
    * Quick Facts: 18 holes, par 72, 6644m long award-winning course.

Designed by world-renowned golf architects Nelson & Haworth, Shan Shui Golf Club is acknowledged to be one of the finest courses in Asia. Carved out of jungle terrain, the natural design allows you to enjoy the wildlife, flora and fauna in abundance, with breathtaking mountains as the backdrop, and views over the Sulu sea. The par-72 championship course measuring 6,644 metres from the championship tee makes it the longest course in Malaysia, and it's length and degree of difficulty has a rating of 74 and a slope of 143.
